Macaron Attempt

This is sort of a late Valentine’s type deal, but this past Saturday I tried my hand at the French style macaron.  For those of you who have never gotten the chance to try a macaron (they’re a bit rare in the states, the only place I’ve had them outside of Paris was in Manhattan), it’s a little cookie that consists of two meringue shells with cream in the middle.  They’re rich, they’re delicate, and they’re delicious.

I used this recipe for Marzipan Macarons.  Macarons come in all flavors, but I love almonds so I figured I’d start with this.  They’re filled with a homemade buttercream.

So that was the cooking process.  I was very pleased when the shells turned out so nice (some better than others).  This was probably one of the most difficult things I’ve ever tried to make, so it was definitely satisfying when they turned out ok.

My sister enjoying a macaron…

And we have the finished product.  Happy (late) Valentine’s Day.  Go find yourself a macaron.
